10 things you need to know this Wednesday Morning

1. After weeks of suspension, some school girls caught smoking shisha in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, have been told to return to school. The girls, who are all students of Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School, Onikolobo, Ogun State, were caught smoking shisha while filming themselves at the residence of one of them.

2. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has dismissed reports that he has been chosen as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general election. Wike, while calling on the general public to ignore the report, said the South was yet to make a statement on the zoning of the presidential ticket of the PDP.

3. Suspected bandits have kidnapped scores of people and killed former Sole Administrator of Dogon Dawa Development Area in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Idris Adam Damari. A resident of the community, Mallam Yunusa Idris said that the bandits attacked the Damari community on Sunday night, shot indiscriminately, hitting Damari in the process.

4. Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs, on Tuesday, vandalised the campaign office of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar at the Investment Quarters, eight kilometres away from the Gombe metropolis. The State’s PDP Chairman, General Audu Kwaskebe (Rtd.), accused members of the APC of being responsible.

5. The Kano State Government has demanded that the remains of an Almajiri child allegedly tortured to death by his teacher should be exhumed. Dr Muhammad Tahar Adamu, Commissioner of Religious Affairs, disclosed this when he visited the school at Wailari area of Kano State, on Tuesday.

6. The National Assembly Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the re-amended Electoral Bill immediately without listening to State governors. The bill was transmitted to the President, on Monday, after being reworked by the parliament

7. Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar visited the hilltop mansion of ex-military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday over his presidential ambition. The duo held a private meeting, which lasted for about 45 minutes.

8. The regime of President Muhammadu Buhari will not be able to complete the repairs of the comatose refineries and will be expecting the next government to continue with it. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, said this on Tuesday during an interview.

9. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lamented the destruction of his 2,420 hectares farmland at Hawe in Aliade area of Gwer East Local Government of Benue State, at the weekend. Obasanjo, in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, described the burning down of his farm as a bad development.

10. President Muhammadu Buhari says the Federal Government remains committed to honouring promises made to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). This, the President said, was to prevent disruptive strikes, engender uninterrupted academic programmes and improve funding of education institutions.
