2023 PRESIDENCY Bishop Kukah tells Nigerians who their next President must be

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah has outlined some qualities anyone aspiring to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023 must possess.

The Bishop said that Nigerians at this point must have learnt their lessons from the failures of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government and are ready to make the right choices.

Bishop Kukah, in his Easter message to Nigerians, described the current administration as a tragedy that has befallen the country and inflicted untold pains and sufferings on its citizens.

The next President of Nigeria must be a man or woman with a heart, a sense of empathy and a soul on fire that can set limits to what human indignities visited on citizens that he or she can tolerate,” Bishop Kukah, known for speaking his mind to people in power, said.

2023 beckons and the stage is set. The challenge is whether we have learnt any lessons from the tragedy that has afflicted us in the last few years,” he continued.

Kukah said that Nigerians do not need any further empty promises of a messianic coming to save or rescue them from insecurity and hardship with deceitful and grandiose religiosity.

We need someone who can fix our broken nation, rid our people of the looming dangers of hunger and destitution,” he insisted.

The Bishop went on to highlight that Nigeria’s presidential aspirants must be able to show Nigerians without doubt and through their legacies and antecedents that they know the country well enough and its severe wounds.

He said that whoever is preparing to take over from the outgoing government must also illustrate that they understand what has turned the nation into a national hospital and show Nigerians their plans to rescue them “from this horror.”
