Bandits Are More Than Security Operatives – CAN

The Chairman of the Taraba State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev Isaiah Magaji Jirapye has again expressed sadness at the unabated killings in the southern parts of Taraba and the country at large.

Jirapye who doubles as the National President of the Christian Reformed Church-Nigeria (CRC-N), said the security apparatus of the country has been overstretched.

He said the “issue of insecurity in the southern part of Taraba State is true”, while speaking to newsmen on Sunday.
A lot of killings have been going on there and the church has spoken against it and we will continue to speak against it.

Jirapye who called on believers to pray seriously for God to bring the killings to an end, wondering why the figures of bandits have continued to exceed that of the security operatives.

He said ”we do not know why bandits are more in numbers than the security people we have”, He asked those in positions of authority to consider giving the security agencies all the needed support to overrun the bandits.

The bandits have sophisticated weapons more than security agents which means the government needs to be up and doing. They need to be very serious and committed to their responsibilities, he said.

He beckoned at the government to sit up adding that a lot of things are not working well because even the security people who are involved in trying to maintain peace and order in the country are not finding it easy at all due to lapses.

The few of them that are there in the field with their weapons, they should also be very active in this matter because you discovered that a lot of lives have been lost and if we do not stop this, then it means that we will keep losing many more lives.

He appealed to government to urgently reduce the suffering of those displaced by the insurgency, saying, it is their duty to take care of the masses that have been displaced from their homes if you go to Ussa local government council, so many people have been displaced.

It is the responsibility of NEMA being an agency of the government and the government of the state and of the Federation to take prompt action to help these people.
