COL. AKOBUNDU, GOV. IKPEAZU, SENATOR T.A ORJI, AND OTHER DIGNITARIES EULOGIZE LATE SIR NDIDI OKEREKE IN VALEDICTORY SERVICE –
The PDP Abia Central Senatorial candidate, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd), together with other top dignitaries in the state, today attended the valedictory service of late Chief Sir Pharm. Ndidi Okereke.
At the emotion-laden service held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, Col. Akobundu described the late former Abia state PDP Chairman as an integral part of practically all moves that brought peace and stability to the party and the State.
He added that the deceased was a reliable friend and party man, who labored tirelessly, committing his time, energy, and resources to the development of the State and the country at large.
In his tribute, the former Senior Special Adviser on Communications to the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and the first Executive Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, noted that the late Chief Okereke epitomized the finest of character with his amiable disposition to issues. This he said made it possible for him to lead mature, highly productive, and rancor-free Party Executives and members in the state as he enjoyed the absolute confidence of his colleagues.
“My relationship with the late Chief Ndidi Okereke was a long and cordial one, especially in party affairs. He had always been a progressive politician of an uncommon commitment, and belonged among the most decent of men.” He said.
While urging the family to take solace in the fact that their father chose to serve humanity and the state, the elder statesman said late Chief Okereke had successfully etched his name in gold.
While adding his voice to the litany of tributes, the former governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator T.A Orji, stated that Chief Okereke was an excellent administrator who led the party with utmost grace which was not found in many of his peers. He went further to urge friends and associates to support the family of the deceased, especially his wife and children, adding that this is the only way they can show their love and respect for him.
Capping up the speeches of the dignitaries who spoke, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Ph.D., said “Chief Ndidi Okereke was my very good brother and his death is so painful. He had a huge intellect and he contributed to the growth and stability of the party both in Abia state and at the National level. Our consolation is that he is in a better place. We would continue to stand by his family in these trying times. I express my heartfelt condolences and I pray the good Lord grant his soul eternal rest.” He concluded.
Late Chief Okereke hailed from Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area and was the former Board Chairman of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia. He was also the PDP Chairman in Abia state when the late Prince Vincent Ogbulafor who also passed on recently was the National Chairman of the party.
He went to be with the Lord in the early hours of Monday 14th of November, 2022, aged 67.
