1. President Bola Tinubu on Thursday urged the Chinese government to increase the two billion dollar currency swap between Nigeria and China to enhance trade between the two countries. He also called for an upward review of the 50 billion dollar aid package for Africa, which China’s President Xi Jinping announced last year.

2. Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to listen to the plights of Nigerians, saying: “Your policies are not working and people are suffering.” Speaking when he received a delegation of Islamic scholars led by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, Governor Mohammed advised the president to listen to Nigerians and correct his past mistakes.

3. President Tinubu on Thursday urged the military to proactively take the war to the camps of bandits and terrorists. The president made the call following the loss of six soldiers during a dawn terrorist attack on January 4, 2025, on an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.

4. The Peoples Republic of China has promised to provide one billion Yuan in military grants to Africa to enable the continent to tackle its security challenges. This was disclosed by the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, during a joint press conference with his Nigerian counterpart, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.

5. The Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has enacted three laws in the state, bypassing the assent of the state governor, Siminialayi Fubara. The lawmakers said their actions were in line with Section 100(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, and in furtherance of legislative positivism in the interest of the Rivers people.

6. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday signed the state’s N3.366 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law. The bill christened the “Budget of Sustainability,” was presented to the Lagos State House of Assembly, LAHA on November 21, 2024, and represents a 32.5 percent increase over last year’s N2.3 trillion budget.

7. The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, conducted over 8,665 missions and 9,928 sorties within 15,915 flying hours using all aircraft types between June 2023 and December 2024, the Chief of the Air Staff, CAS, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has said. Abubakar announced this while hosting the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, yesterday in Abuja.

8. Two Policemen were, on Thursday, killed during a failed attempt to invade the Nganzai Police Division, in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Terrorists, BHT. This came as suspected BHT invaded parts of Gwoza LGA of the state and slaughtered an unspecified number of firewood scavengers.

9. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced one Chima Nkwocha also known as Young Billionaire to two years imprisonment for defrauding a United States citizen of $345,000. It was learnt from a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday that the convict was arrested in August 2024.

10. Three persons have been killed as suspected cultists attacked the Igbogene community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The attack on Wednesday night, at about 8.00 pm, is the first in nearly a year after the state government overhauled its security apparatus with the establishment of the Community Security Corps among others.
