Abia govt issues staff of office to Pastor Eberechukwu Oji as Eze Aro

Abia State Government, Friday, formally presented the Certificate of Recognition and Staff of Office to Pastor Price Eberechukwu Oji, as the new Eze Aro.

Arochukwu kingdom for some months now, has been engulfed in ezeship tussle, as two candidates for the royal stool , Prince Oji, and Prince Godwin Kanu Idei, both laid claims to the throne.

Presenting the new monarch before the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, the Chairman, Board of Patrons, Nzuko Aro worldwide, Professor Okoro Ijeoma, said that the days of tribulation were over.

He said that Pastor Oji emerged through a transparent process, and had the endorsement of the people.

The elder statesman, thanked the Commissioner and the Abia State Government for their support and efforts in restoring peace in the Aro kingdom.

Responding, the Commissioner who handed over the Staff of Office to the new monarch, commended the people of Aro for resolving their differences.

He urged them to unite behind their new monarch for the peace and development of the Aro kingdom.

In his speech after receiving the Staff of Office, the new monarch thanked the Aro people and the State Government for according him recognition as the new Eze Aro .

He promised to pursue peace, unity and justice for the well being of the people.

It’s my desire to pursue unity and absolute balance in everything I do in Arochukwu kingdom. I will be a servant-leader and a listening leader.

”Today is a great day in Arochukwu because in all the places we had taken the backseat, we will now take the front seat. We will provide good leadership to preserve our rich tradition and culture.

” We will provide leadership that exemplifies what God expects of us. We want to make Aro an example of how other Kingdoms will be ruled.

” Wherever Aro people are today in the world, I want them to be filled with a sense of joy and pride that the Aro kingdom is back.”

He sued for peace and unity among all his subjects for the good of Aro kingdom.

“I call for understanding and unity. I appeal to everyone, who in the course of the process, felt offended. Please, let’s put all these things behind and join hands together to build Arochukwu”.

The monarch who is a Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, also thanked the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and the people of Aro for their prayers and support.

Later in and interview, the 9th Eze Aro said his emergence followed due process as five of the seven-man panel of kingmakers voted in his favour.

He described the process as very transparent and fair.

Responding to a question whether his co-contestant, Prince Idei, who is also laying claims to the crown, had accepted to bulge, he said “there is only one Eze Aro”, insisting that he (Oji) already wears the crown.

Speaking also in an interview, the Eze Ibom Isii, who is traditionally vested with the powers to crown the king, Pastor Amos Okoro, said he had placed the crown on the new Eze Aro because he was selected through the normal age-long traditional process.

Although he acknowledged that his predecessor, died last Sunday, he said the death of the late Eze Ibom Isii had nothing to do with the ezeship tussle contrary to speculations in some quarters.

Similarly, the President General of Nzuko Aro worldwide, Mazi Dozie Udensi, said he came in from Lagos to identify with the new Eze Aro because his emergence followed due process, and enjoys the support of Aro people.

” The process was transparent. The royal family presented the candidates before the kingmakers and the panel voted for him. The ruling house will select an Eze and show us, and that is what they have done. “

Some other prominent Aro personalities that accompanied the new monarch were the President General of Okennachi kindred (kingmakers), Mazi Udo Chijioke; and the Aria Nzu of Arochukwu who held sway before the emergence of the new Eze Aro, Mazi Oji Kanu Oji.

Others were the Chairman, Board of Patrons, Nzuko Aro worldwide, Professor Okoro Ijeoma; former Spokesman of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mazi Ugo Okoroafor; Dr Azubuike Okoro, Mazi Charles Ijeoma, among others.
