Abia State Pensioners Seeks Over Unpaid Entitlements with Praying and Fasting.

0Shares

The Pensioners in Abia State, under the Abia Pensioners Forum, has concluded a three-day fasting and prayer session in Umuahia, seeking divine intervention for the payment of their unpaid entitlements.

The forum’s Coordinator, Mr. Okey Kanu, emphasized the group’s commitment to pushing for the payment of their gratuities and pension arrears, which they claim have been neglected by the state government.

Speaking after the event, Kanu, a lawyer, highlighted the forum’s ongoing efforts to challenge the Memoranda of Agreement signed between the government and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP).

This meeting is particularly necessary because our state NUP Exco has denied entering into any agreement with the Government to forfeit our arrears of pension, especially gratuity,” Kanu said.

He also cited recent statements by the NUP leadership denying any agreement to waive the pensioners’ rights, a move he believes strengthens their advocacy.

During the prayer session, Pastor Success Obinya of City Liberation Centre encouraged the retirees to maintain faith, assuring them that their prayers would not go unanswered.

The pensioners hope that their spiritual and advocacy efforts will compel the government to honour its obligations and address their long-standing grievances.
