ABIA STATE POLICE COMMAND, TOURISM BOARD, PARTNER TO BOOST TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Police Command, Janet Agbede has lauded the commitment of Abia State Tourism Board towards repositioning the sector for optimal performance as a vital sub-sector of the Abia economy.

COMPOL Janet Agbede was speaking on Thursday, March 31, 2022 when she received the management team of Abia State Tourism Board that paid her a courtesy visit in her office, led by the General Manager, Queen Onyekachi Atulomah.

The State CP said that Abia State Police Command under her watch is committed to partnering with the Abia State Tourism Board to boost tourism development in the State by ensuring the sustenance of peace and security as well as adequate protection of inbound tourists and tourism facilities across the State. She emphasized that tourism all over the world is a great economic asset and commended the Abia State Tourism Board for its renewed commitment towards full activation of tourism activities in the State.

Earlier in her address, the General Manager of Abia State Tourism Board, Queen Onyekachi Atulomah congratulated COMPOL Janet Agbede for achieving the historic feat of being the first female Commissioner of Police in Abia State, describing it as an inspiration for young women to work diligently and break the bias against women in a male-dominated society.

Queen Atulomah appreciated the CP and the Command for their tireless efforts to sustain peace and security in the State. She sought the partnership of the Command to complement the drive by the Tourism Board aimed at full restoration of tourism activities across the State in keeping with the mandate of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, noting that tourism cannot thrive without adequate security and, conversely, a robust tourism industry is usually indicative of a peaceful and secure society.

The high point of the brief event was the conferment of ‘Most Tourism Friendly CP Award’ on COMPOL Janet Agbede by the Abia tourism boss, in recognition of her commitment to combating crime in the State and invariably making the State a safe destination for tourists. COMPOL Abgede while expressing appreciation for the honour, also presented a complimentary plaque to Queen Onyekachi Atulomah.

Present at the event were senior officers of the Abia State Police Command, including the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Geoffrey Ogbonna; top management staff of the Abia State Tourism Board; Programmes Manager of Flo 94.9 FM Umuahia, Mr. Prosper Nwachukwu (Elder Propropro); tourism consultant and Editor-in-Chief of African Heritage Times, Mr. Victor Nwokocha; as well as media executives from several other organizations.
