The Former Minister of State for Defence and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Abia Central Senatorial district in next year’s elections, Col Austin Akobundu (rtd), has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of “NWADIOHANMA” of Nneisi Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.
While conferring the title on the multiple Award recipient in his palace on Friday, the traditional ruler of Nvosi Autonomous Community, HRM Eze (Prof) B.O Dike, the Eze Udo 1 of the Community, stated that Akobundu was honored due to his outstanding contributions and service to his fatherland and humanity.
According to him, as a public servant, the former minister consistently maintained an open door policy, saying that he has also served the people of Abia State meritoriously and therefore deserves the title.
In his speech after receiving his title, the immediate past National Organising Secretary of PDP appreciated the people of Nvosi land for finding him worthy to be conferred with the chieftaincy title and assured them that he will always remember them in the scheme of things if elected as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
He used the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Abia Central if elected and assured the people of Umunneato Ngwa and their Ikwuano/Umuahia counterparts of his readiness to always give an account of his stewardship if elected into the Red Chamber.
Other personalities who were also conferred with various chieftaincy titles at the Iwaji ceremony of Eze Dike included: Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State as well as the State PDP Governorship candidate in next year’s poll, Prof Uche Ikonne.
