The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, supervised the oath of office administered to the new senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Col.Austin Okwudiri Akobundu(rtd), during plenary on Wednesday.

The oath was administered to him by the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze.

He thereafter proceeded to have a handshake with the Senate President, who handed over to her a copy of the Senate Standing Rules.

He was later led to his seat by the sergeant at arms after an exchange of pleasantries with her colleagues.

The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, affirmed on Saturday that Col.Austin Okwudiri Akobundu(rtd), of the Peoples Democratic Party, was the duly elected candidate for the Abia Central Senatorial Election on February 25, this year.

The appellate court sacked the appeal of Senator Darlington Nwokocha of the Labour Party for not complying with Section 77 of the Electoral Act as Amended.

The court further declared that Col.Austin Okwudiri Akobundu(rtd) was the actual winner of the February senatorial poll.
