Anambra agency clarifies payment for pasting burial posters

The Managing Director/CEO of Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), Mr Odili Ujubuoñu, has clarified levies fixed for pasting of burial posters in the state.

Last week, the media had been awash with stories of a new tax in Anambra State, which mandates all bereaved families to pay N100,000 before they can paste obituary posters.

But Ujubuonu, who was on a radio programme in Anambra on Wednesday, said the rates were erroneous.

He took time to explain in detail the regulations and the fees saying: “The directional signs for ease of identification of location of burial, for visitors during the burial remains free of charge.

But, there was never a time the agency demanded 100,000 for burial posters.

The stipulated fees are very clear but some of the press men for the reasons known to them chose to fly with the 100,000 which is accrued to a 10ft x 10ft billboard.”

He continued: “Posters are charged N5,000 for two weeks, while 4 x 6 Ft is also N5,000 for two weeks. 8 x 10 Ft is N20,000 for two weeks, while anything as large as 10 Ft square and above is billed N100,000.”

He said the levy will help to reduce the rate at which people deface the environment in the name of pasting burial posters.

He also made it clear that it’s the obligation of the bereaved family who pasted the posters to remove them after the burial or attract extra charges after the two weeks.
