Some youths within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, protested against the ‘sack’ of the Secretary Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee of the party, Senator John Akpanudoedehe.
The youths, under the aegis of Progressives Youth Movement (PYM), at a press briefing in Abuja, cautioned party leaders not to bring up issues that can cause confusion before the national convention of the party, slated for March 26.
Cdanewsonline had reported that members of the APC CECPC had passed a vote of no confidence on Akpanudoedehe.
A letter containing a vote of no confidence on the national secretary emerged Thursday morning, revealing that a full quorum of the CECPC, consisting of 10 members, signed a letter sacking the scribe.
But reacting to the development, the youths, through the national coordinator of PYM, Prince Mustapha Audu, described the purported sack of the APC scribe as null and void, explaining that the party currently needs unity, not crisis that can tear it apart.
He said, “We are here to state that any vote of no confidence is null and void. We support the party, we support the directive of Mr President 100 percent, we support His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni who is the Chairman of the party.
We also support Senator John Akpanudoedehe 100 per cent, anybody bringing any issue against the party at this critical stage is clearly an enemy of the APC. The person is clearly intending to bring about disruption.
We have 9 days left until the APC convention, all hands should be on deck. We should be working together to make sure things are done rightly.
We’ve seen the letter this morning that was issued by our youth leader, Barrister Ismail Ahmed. We expect that we should be working hand in hand with him to deliver the party.”
Audu called on all members of the party to give Buni-led CECPC necessary support to deliver a free and fair national convention.
He added, “We have a legal way of removing anybody from a committee and I think only the NEC has the authority to do that.
I don’t believe a committee that was set up has the authority to sack a member of that committee that was set up by NEC, especially a member who is superior in position. I think that is absolutely impossible but we would leave that for the legal team to look into that.”
