Suspected armed bandits have allegedly kidnapped an unconfirmed number of persons and injured scores in communities in Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State.

Report has it that the gunmen invaded the communities at about 2 pm after Friday prayer and on Saturday morning.

The communities under attack include Essan, Koitapi, Wuda and Loitapi among others in the area.

The bandits allegedly carried out their operations for several hours without interference, carting away cattle and motorcycles. They destroyed houses rendering the villagers homeless as others escaped into the bush.

An eyewitness, who craved anonymity said that the gunmen launched their attacks by shooting sporadically into the air thereby creating panic in the villages.

It would be recalled that aggrieved youths of the community had earlier burnt down the only police station at Kaffin Koro when bandits attacked and killed a reverend father some months ago. Since then, the bandits have been launching their attacks without intervention.

Confirming the incident, the coordinator of Kaffin Koro Axis Concerned Youth, Maikarfi Sabastine appealed to the state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, and security agencies, to urgently come to the aid of the affected communities to mitigate their sufferings.
