The former President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the person of Senator Adolfus Wabara, warned the Nigerian government that the same events that led to the Nigerian civil war are ongoing and worse.
Around five million Biafrans were reported dead during the war.
Senator Wabara, while interacting with journalists in Aba, Abia State, complained that instead of serious efforts by the federal government to resolve the problems that led to the war, the country’ s leaders decided to look angrily at the instigators.
He said that despite their contribution to national development, Nigeria continues to see Igbos as the enemy of the nation.
Wabara argued that the civil war was not enough reason for Nigerian leaders to use it as a yardstick to bring justice to the Igbos.
He said; ” If we fought the Biafran war, there was a reason for it.
” What Biafrans saw and decided to break out from the federal government of Nigeria is what other tribes are now beginning to see.
” Are those Igbos or Biafrans who want to have independent today? Never! That means Ndigbo saw years ago, other tribes have started seeing now” .
Also, the former Senate President said that the Nigerian federal government should try to see the Igbos exactly as part of the country so that they don’ t treat them as foreigners and perhaps refugees.
However, the former Senate President said the ongoing agitation and call to leave by the Igbos was a result of mistreatment, racism, injustice, neglect, and exclusion from the federal level in Nigeria’ s political structure.
He stated; ” We want to be called Nigeria, but if we don’ t have a hand or position, I can’ t find myself looking at my people who were left behind and trapped at my age” .
