Amb. Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, Country President and International Director of United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), has urged the leaders of Palestine and Israel to find a peaceful resolution and lasting solution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East.
Adesanya-Davies in a press statement in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria stated that, “The prolonged reprisal attacks has caused immense suffering, displacement, and economic hardship for the people of both nations.”
She elucidates:
*Humanitarian Crisis*
The conflict has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis, with thousands of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. An as such as a matter of urgency, “The international community must come together to demand an immediate ceasefire and negotiate a lasting peace agreement.”
*Regional Implications*
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has broader implications for regional dynamics and alliances. It’s crucial that we address the root causes of the conflict and work towards a vibrant two-state solution possibly.
*Economic Consequences*
The war has also had devastating economic consequences, exacerbating poverty and debt in the regions. We must prioritize economic cooperation and development to support the people affected by the conflict on both sides.
*United for Peace*
As a representative of the United Nations POLAC demanding and soliciting for world peace, I call on UN, governments and organizations to join us in demanding an end to the Palestine-Israel war. So that together, we can create a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.
*Middle East Escalation*
The press statement is towards the end that, “there was a barrage of missiles exploding over Israel after Iran launched almost 200 missiles towards the country on 1 October, 2024. The Israeli military said most of the missiles were intercepted, but that a small number struck central and southern Israel.
The country’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran had made a “big mistake” and “will pay for it”. Someone was killed by falling missile debris in the city of Jericho in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian officials said.
Iran said the attack was in response to two assassinations by Israel – of the Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut and of the Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The largely thwarted attack was seen by many as an attempt to restore the Islamic Republic’s capacity to deter further Israeli attacks on its allies. But with Israel’s armed forces moving into southern Lebanon and the US government unflinching in its support of Binyamin Netanyahu’s administration, the warning seems to be falling on deaf ears.”
Sincerely,
Amb. Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies
Country President, United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC).
