Good morning dear esteemed readers! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The military high command says it has invited the international human rights organization, Amnesty International, to defend its allegations against the armed forces that 10,000 civilians died in its custody. It described the claims by the international rights group as “malicious, shocking, lacking in merit as well as mischievous”.

2. Kano State Government on Friday fingered the Federal Government in the blockade of Kano Emir’s palace on Friday. Armed police and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had blocked the entrance to the palace, creating a tense atmosphere.

3. Not less than two explosive devices went off at separate locations in the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State. It was gathered that the two explosions occurred on the road between Dansadau and Malamawa and another on Malele Road, all in the Dansadau district.

4. The House of Representatives has introduced two bills aimed at addressing budget presentation delays by the president and governors. They also seek to limit the number of supplementary budgets passed annually to bridge funding gaps.

5. Kaduna State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected gun runners, Zubairu Musa, 40, and Nasiru Saidu, 17, who are natives of Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State. The suspects were intercepted by officers from 47 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Zaria, during a routine vehicular patrol along the Zaria-Jos Road, Kaduna State.

6. A police personnel and another operative of the Anambra Vigilante Group have sustained varying degrees of injuries during a gun battle with some yet-to-be-identified assailants at a police checkpoint in the Ajali community, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

7. The Police Service Commission says it has approved the dismissal of 18 senior officers and the demotion of 19 others. The officers were sanctioned due to various acts of misconduct. Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday in Abuja.

8. The naira on Friday recorded a major leap, one of its biggest in nearly one year. It closed at N1,515 to the dollar, representing N200 gain from N1,715 to the dollar recorded on Thursday. The naira appreciation came amid a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) crediting Nigeria with a N5.81trillion trade surplus in the third quarter of 2024 (Q3 2024).

9. The Nigerian Army has re-opened the Rescue Market, popularly known as Malaysia Market, Onuimo in Obowo Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Maj-Gen. Hassan Dada, reopened the market which was closed three weeks ago after an attack on a military checkpoint by suspected IPOB members resulting in the death of two soldiers.

10. Vice-President, Sen. Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerian Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) to ensure seamless availability of Naira notes to the banking public. Shettima made the call on Friday in Abuja, at the 2024 Bankers ‘ Committee Retreat. He urged the committee to address some unwholesome practices by some Point of Sale (PoS) agents which impeded the availability of cash.
