Good morning dear esteemed readers! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The rerun elections conducted in some states on Saturday in 26 states of the federation were characterised by violence, vote-buying, ballot snatching, disruption and low turnout of voters. Some of the issues forced the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to suspend the polls in some of the polling units in Kano, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Plateau States.

2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered over N30bn from the N37,170,855,753.44 allegedly laundered in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs under the former minister, Sadiya Umar-Farouk.

3. Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Saturday, assured parents and families of kidnapped pupils and staff of the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools, Emure Ekiti, that they would soon be rescued.

Oyebanji promised that efforts were in top gear to secure the release of the abductees safely and as well apprehend the perpetrators to face the law.

4. Governors in the South-West region are seriously considering setting up joint patrols by security agencies to rid the area of kidnappers who have made life unbearable for the residents. The state governors are also planning more logistics support for security agents, including the military, the police, Amotekun, vigilantes and local hunters, among others, to tackle the resurgence of kidnapping and killings in the region.

5. No fewer than 55 wedding guests who were said to be escorting a bride home along the Damari town in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State have been kidnapped by suspected bandits. A resident confirmed the development on Saturday, saying they have not been contacted for ransom.

6. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Surulere Federal Constituency I, Lagos, Fuad Laguda, has coasted home to a landslide victory in Saturday’s by-election. The main challengers, Adeola Adebanjo, the Labour Party and Jerry Afemighie of the Peoples Democratic Party posed no threat to Laguda’s aspiration.

7. The Police in Kano on Saturday arrested many suspected ballot box snatchers during the House of Assembly rerun election. The apprehended youths were armed with dangerous weapons to disrupt the elections in Kunchi local government area of the state, police said.

8. For the second time in 24 hours, the Federal Government has reviewed the Nigeria Customs Service exchange rate for importation of goods. The importation exchange rate, which was N953 per dollar as of January ending, was raised to N1,356 per dollar on Friday morning.

9. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has assured Nigerians that the benefits of fuel subsidy removal will be reaped soon. Gbajabiamila gave the assurance after casting his vote at Polling Unit 014, Ward 08 at Elizabeth Fowler Memorial School, Surulere, Lagos State, in the House of Representatives by-election in the constituency on Saturday.

10. At least four policemen were killed and a cache of ammunition carted away when suspected fighters of Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, attacked a police station in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State. ISWAP fighters reportedly stormed the police station at Gajiram town, Nganzai LGA and opened fire on the policemen on duty.
