Col Akobundu rtd, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) frontline for Abia Central Senatorial District, has appealed to the Abia State citizens, particularly those in Abia Central who are yet to obtain their voters’ cards to do so today,
Akobundu, appealed in a statement he issued in Umuahia on Thursday, May 5, 2022, against the backdrop of the Work Free Day declared by the Okezie Ikpeazu-led government for Abians who are above 18 years as of this year, 2022, and have not obtained their Personal Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to do so forthwith.
The Work Free Day will favor those who recently relocated to Abia State from other parts of the federation as well as persons whose PVCs are missing.
They are to go to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nearest to them to register and obtain their PVCs.
Akobundu in the statement urged all eligible voters in the Senatorial District not to miss the opportunity, even as he commended the state government for setting a day aside for the exercise and observed that the Work Free Day will go a long way in ensuring that those who are encumbered by work or other economic activities will be free to register.
While urging traders and other businessmen and women in the state to exploit the exercise to the fullest, the PDP Abia Central Senatorial aspirant regretted that the Southeast, particularly Abia State, has exhibited some level of apathy in terms of registering and obtaining the voters’ cards.
He, therefore, urged them to go out en masse to obtain their voters’ cards, stressing that they should report any hiccup encountered during the process to their Ward and LGA leaders as well as their Stakeholders in their locality.
“This is the time our huge voting strength will manifest. Your vote is your strength, your future, it’s your mission statement, and the only way to put things right is to select the right candidate that will attract development and make you feel the real impact of democratic representation.
“Your ability to exercise your franchise will be possible only if you register and obtain your voter’s card. Do so today and encourage others; your kiths and kin, your loved ones, friends, and well-wishers who are above the age of 18. Let them register and obtain their PVCs before the registration center.
“The benefits of obtaining and possessing the PVCs are innumerable. It may be demanded in some financial transactions like banks and other financial institutions; in payment of energy bills, academic transactions, in embassies, etc. So, you should go today and register and be sure that you’ve overcome any challenge nonregistration may attract in the future.
“Thank you and God bless all as you go out to register”, he added.
