Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has said his players will receive some slaps over their performance in the Premier League 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Arsenal has now suffered two major setbacks in their pursuit of a Champions League place with successive defeats to Crystal Palace and Brighton.
Before their trip to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Brighton had gone seven games without a win but outplayed Arsenal to win 2-1.
Leandro Trossard put the visitors ahead midway through the first half and VAR ruled out Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinell’s equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
The Gunners then went two goals behind when Enock Mwepu rifled a shot past goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
And during his post-match interview, Arteta was asked how his team planned to respond to two damaging defeats.
The really upset Arsenal boss said, “What happens is we criticise ourselves a lot again, get slapped again because we deserve it and then lift ourselves up.
We know this road is taking us nowhere, especially with where we want to be. We have everything to play for in the last eight games.”
