The Member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, Honourable Ginger Onwusibe has called on the Nigerian youths to consider engaging in dialogue rather than embarking on any protest.
Speaking to news men in his country home at Amapu Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, Hon. Onwusibe expressed concern, that the good intentions of the protesters might be hijacked by hoodlums, causing mayhem and unleashing more hardship on the citizens.
While acknowledging that there is hunger in the land and the economic policies deployed have not yielded impactful results, he recognized that citizens have the right to organize peaceful protest against bad and poor living conditions but advised that meaningful dialogue should be considered first.
According to Hon. Onwusibe, history has shown that dialogue is more effective than protests, hence protest should only be a tool of last resort when all other means have failed. Quoting the former President of the United States of America, Sir Winston Churchill who said “it is better to jaw-jaw than to war-war”, he urged the youths to exercise restraint and rather engage the government and their leaders with their demands, noting that now is time for dialogue and hopefully the government will listen and act to avert any further need for protests.
He reiterated that the nation needs maximum peace to remain focused and accomplish the task of rebuilding the economy. Any protest that might lead to the destruction of the infrastructures that has been put in place should be avoided.
He emphasized his absolute commitment to effective representation and doing all within his powers for the betterment of the constituency, state and the nation.
