Five die as fire razes Bonny- Bille Jetty in Port Harcourt

Five dead bodies have been recovered from an early morning fire incident at Bonny Bille jetty in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday.

The victims, including a pregnant woman and a two-month-old boy, were burnt beyond recognition by the fire.

CDAnews reports that about 60 wooden and fibre boats were also destroyed by the fire.

The fire was said to have been caused by some persons offloading some illegally refined petroleum products from the boats.

Some eyewitness said the fire started at 2 am.

At the time of this report, officials of the National Island Waterways Authority have arrived the scene to monitor the evacuation of victims and to ascertain the root cause of the fire at the jetty.
