Flying Eagles Beat Benin To Win WAFU U-20

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles emerged champions of the WAFU B U-20 Championship after thrashing the Young Squirrels of Benin Republic 3-1 in the final at the Stade General Seyni Kountche on Friday night.

Tolu Ojo bagged a brace for the Flying Eagles in the keenly contested encounter, while Ibrahim Muhammad scored the other goal.

Ojo put Ladan Bosso’s tutored lads in front from the penalty spot five minutes before the break.

The Young Squirrels came close to equalising late in the first half, but the goal bound effort was cleared off the line.

Ojo netted Nigeria’s second goal of the game 20 minutes from time.

The attacker unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box which sailed into the net.

The Flying Eagles continued their dominance and were rewarded for their impressive attacking display when Muhammad netted the third goal with another beautiful finish from outside the box.

It was Muhammad’s second goal of the competition.

Edou Farid reduced the tally for the Squirrels nine minutes from time.

Ojo was named man of the match after the encounter.

The Flying Eagles finished the competition with three wins and one draw.

They will also compete at the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt next year.
