Four killed, three injured as locals clash with herders in Kaduna community

Four people have been killed, while three others were injured in a clash between locals and herders in Jankasa, Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna state.

Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Aruwan said the Jankasa clash was reported to the state government by military and police authorities.

The clash occurred along some cattle routes in the area, and then escalated into a firefight between the two groups, before security forces arrived to bring the situation under control,” he said.

Aruwan said the four people killed were identified as Luka Nelson, Timothy Koni, Pasi Peter and George Frances, while Daniel Dauda, Extra James and Henry Frances who sustained injuries are receiving treatment in a hospital.

The commissioner also said there was another attack on a community in Kaura LGA, but there were no casualties.

“Further to this, security agencies reported that unknown gunmen attacked some settled herders at Manchok, Kaura LGA. The security agencies reported that this was an apparent reprisal to the initial clash,” he sail

Thirteen cows have been confirmed killed so far, as troops recovered 25 cows alive from the area. No human casualties have been reported, as search operations continue.”

Aruwan added that Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, “sent his deepest condolences to the families of the victims”.

The governor also appealed to the community to uphold lawful actions over violent conduct at all times.

While wishing those injured a quick recovery, el-Rufai tasked security agencies to ensure diligent investigation into the attacks, adding that security patrols are ongoing in the affected communities.
