The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano has opposed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s move to get a N10 billion loan to install CCTV in the state.

The House of Assembly approved the request on Wednesday during plenary presided by the Speaker, Hamisu Chidari.

Governor Ganduje said the loan would be used for developing optic cyber and CCTV installation within the metropolis and the five Emirates and it became necessary duty to the alarming rate of insecurity in the North West region.

The loan payment schedule include a tenor of 10 years inclusive of a 12-month moratorium.

In a swift reaction on Friday, Umar Doguwa, Kano NNPP Chairman, said the “clueless administration” was stockpiling debts without commensurate achievements.

Doguwa accused Ganduje of using his office to mortgage the future of the state and that of the people.

He noted that due to inability to pay Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) fees, countless students have dropped out and others are on the verge of doing the same.

Ignoring the fact that the state is experiencing increased water scarcity, the governor chooses to borrow to fund a project as insignificant as CCTV installation,” he said.

Doguwa recalled that former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso deployed CCTV in strategic locations but the current administration failed to maintain them.

Kano people can vividly recall that Ganduje had borrowed N15billion on education reform, yet a significant number of our students have dropped out from school as the government could not cater for their common entrance examination and senior secondary school examination.

It is widely believed that the N10billion granted by the state assembly is meant to cover the excesses of monies deliberately misappropriated during the various primary elections of the ruling party”, he added.
