While we welcome Abia State Government support to the security formation in the state due to the increase in crime and criminality that has gained momentum since June 2023, under LP/Otti;
It is a very important question we are asking Gov. Otti now.
No doubt, the security situation today, is indeed a total departure from the last 8 years and requires serious attention.
Kudos to the state government for the security vehicles.
However, I make bold to ask the following Questions.
Why Toyota this time, when we were told earlier that Innoson Motors will be the official brand?
They said they will do their things differently by supporting and patronizing our local economy.
Pictures were littered all over social media where Otti was at Innoson motors yard checking out vehicles.
Why not Innoson Motors, if we are to support our local content, as promised?
I am well aware of the unimpeachable integrity and transactional transparency Innoson does his business. No room for “hanky panky”.
The local automobile company, Innoson Motors has lost many dubious clients due to its company policy of transparency. I believe that Innoson motors should be encouraged.
The cost of Innoson vehicles is uniform and known. Their prices are marketplace common knowledge.
Conversely, Toyota Hilux does not have uniform free market cost. According to Elizade, the major dealer of Toyota brands in Nigeria, Toyota Hilux sells for N43M (see attached price list). They sell the costliest in the country because they pay all the import duties. So it is easy to do the math.
(1) So Who is the vendor for these Toyota Hilux vehicles.???
(2) At what cost were these vehicles procured?
(3) Did the purchase follow due process?
(4) Did the govt advertise this procurement?
(5) If yes, then, Who and who bidded?
(6) Did the exco approve?
Ordinarily, I would have ignored all these issues raised above because Alex Otti and Labout party talked about total change and transparency as their watchword.
Could it be that governance is more practical than theoretical as nothing has changed.?
