Heartland Football Club of Owerri emerged the winner of the 2023 Nigeria National League (NNL) after defeating Kano Pillars 2-0 in the final of the Super Eight playoffs at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Friday night.

Report has it that the two teams failed to register a goal in the first half despite creating a number of chances.

Heartland broke the deadlock through Francis Erikan nine minutes after the break.

Erikan dribbled through the Kano Pillars defence before firing into the net.

Fabian Omaka doubled Heartland’s advantage 14 minutes from time.

Christian Obi’s side finished the competition unbeaten.

Heartland, Sporting Lagos, Kano Pillars and Katsina United all gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier League from the NNL.
