High Chief Ugochukwu Williams Sunday condemns the unlawful detention of Labour Party leaders by Gov. Otti.
An All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Chieftain, High Chief Ugochukwu Williams Sunday on Sunday condemned the arrest and Intimidation of Southeast National Deputy Chairman of Labour Party, Comrade Ceekay Igara by Governor Allex Otti, and his agents.
Chief Ugochukwu Williams is calling the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinibu (GCFR) and the Inspector General of Police to caution Governor Otti and his men to release Comrade Ceekay Igara and stop harassing opposition parties in Abia state.
Dr. Alex Otti reportedly arrested the deputy national chairman of the Labour Party and it has sparked concerns about potential political motivations, particularly with the November 2nd local government council election in Abia State approaching.
This action may be perceived as an attempt to silence opposition or consolidate power, undermining democratic processes and individual rights.
It’s crucial to consider the context and potential implications of this action. As the current governor of Abia State, Dr. Otti has emphasized collaborative governance and community development. However, this reported arrest raises questions about his commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law.
There is strong speculation that Dr. Otti may decamp to the APC and instigate a crisis in the Labour Party’s Abia state chapter to prevent them from having candidates in the 2027 election.
Others see this as an attempt to assert control over the local government council elections, potentially undermining the democratic process.
