I need to forget football – Tomiyasu doesn’t want to return to Arsenal

Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu has said he does not want to return to football instantly after his country, Japan crashed out of the World Cup in a penalty shootout to Croatia on Monday.

The Samurai Blue beat traditional powerhouses Germany and Spain to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Japan missed three of their four penalties in a one-sided shootout that followed a 1-1 draw.

Arsenal is in Dubai in preparation for the second half of the season which starts immediately after the World Cup later this month.

Tomiyasu said he will not in a haste to return to football following the emotional strain caused by Japan’s World Cup demise.

Asked when he will rejoin his club side, the Japan defender said, “I don’t know.

“I need time to forget about football. I need a bit of time.”
