INEC Pledges Credible Anambra Election with Enhanced Results Management

AWKA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to a credible and transparent governorship election in Anambra State this Saturday.

Speaking at the signing of a Peace Accord in Awka on Monday, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan SAN assured stakeholders of the commission’s readiness, highlighting improvements in logistics and result management.

“Let me emphasise that it is not the signatures on this document that guarantee peace; it is the genuine commitment to honouring its provisions,” Amupitan stated, urging candidates and their supporters to uphold non-violence.

He warned that any breach of peace could disrupt the electoral process and undermine its credibility.

Operational Readiness

Prof. Amupitan disclosed that over 24,000 personnel would be deployed to manage the election across 5,718 polling units. He confirmed that logistics have been fine-tuned with security agencies and transport providers to ensure early deployment of materials.

“Voters should therefore expect a significant improvement in Election Day logistics. Enhanced result management processes will also be evident,” he affirmed.

On security, the INEC Chairman announced a major deployment, including 45,000 officers from the Nigeria Police Force and 10,250 personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The commission has extended its Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection deadline to encourage maximum participation from the 2.8 million registered voters.
