Following the security challenges being experienced in Galadima Kogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, a group, Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger State, has called on the government to immediately mobilize and deploy bomb experts to arrest the situation.
A joint statement issued by co-conveners, Sani Abubakar, Yusuf Kokki and Bello Ibrahim, observed that Galadima Kogo and its environs have become a war theatre, saying that during the last invasion of the town by terrorists, explosives believed to be Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) exploded and unfortunately killed four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The statement explained, “Given the ugly development, the Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger State implores the Government to be more proactive by deploying experts to the embattled areas to diffuse IEDs that might still be beneath the ground. This step, if taken, will undoubtedly go a long way in forestalling possible tragedies.”
The youths suggested that the troubled areas of Galadima Kogo and environs be manned by anti-bomb experts to effectively curtail the violence, saying that they suspect that IEDs already planted are still lying around.
It noted that at the moment, the entire town is no longer habitable, stressing that there is the need for urgent government intervention.
In the same vein, the group appealed to the Niger State Government to immediately mobilize and direct its relevant agencies to move into the affected areas and ascertain the level of destructions recorded during the deadly invasion.
It suggested that victims should be profiled, inventory of losses (both human and material) incurred taken and affected victims compensated, saying that it would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the unfortunate man-made disaster.
