Issues Responsible For Poverty In Nigeria Under FG’s Purview – Peter Obi Declares

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, on Sunday, said issues responsible for the rising poverty rate in the country are under the “purview” of the federal government.

Obi, who disclosed this at the Arise TV presidential town hall series on Sunday evening, explained that the issues of security and “fiscal viability” are responsibilities of the federal government.

The frontline presidential candidate maintained that if the federal government secures the nation and provides an enabling environment for investors, the poverty rate will reduce.

Most of the things causing poverty today reside in the purview of the Federal Government. I am going to deal with it, Obi maintained.

Indications revealed that the federal government had last week blamed State governors for the inescapable underdevelopment of communities in local government areas.

However, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) in its response, said the Federal Government’s inability to secure the country is responsible for the rise in the poverty rate.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) had in November announced that 133 million Nigerians are multidimensionally poor.
