Lawyers Rejoice As JUSUN Suspends Strike In Abia

0Shares

Members of the Abia State branch of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) have suspended their industrial action in the state.

Report has it that JUSUN suspended the strike this week as its members reopened courts across the state.

It would be recalled that the strike started on April 10 following the alleged failure of the administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to meet their four-point demands.

Out of the four demands, the former governor only swore in the state chief judge, Justice Lilian Abai, as substantive chief judge, leaving the remaining three.

A JUSUN member who spoke to newsmen on Thursday said the strike was suspended to give room for further negotiation with the present state government on the remaining demands.

When the reporter visited the High Court Complex in Umuahia, judicial activities were going on, with the court complex cleared of overgrown grass.

Some lawyers were also seen exchanging pleasantries while recounting their sad experiences during the two-month JUSUN strike, which frustrated their briefs.

Also, the Election Petitions Tribunal, which handles petitions from House of Assembly election candidates, is also back at the Umuahia High Court.
