Major 10 News Update You Need To Know This Friday Morning

1. The Rivers State Government has revoked the Certificate of Occupancy of land allocated to former Senator, Lee Maeba at the Golf Course axis of GRA in Port Harcourt. Senator Maeba, a staunch supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, is the chairman of the party’s presidential campaign council in Rivers State.

2. A Nigerian, Nicolas Aina, has been arraigned for stabbing his 64-year-old mother, Caroline Adeyelu, to death and injuring his 33-year-old sister, Angel Adeyelu, at their family house in Dagenham, East London, United Kingdom.

3. Leaders of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, have agreed to resolve the crisis in the organisation following the contentious endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and his All Progressives Congress counterpart, Bola Tinubu, by the two leaders of the association.

4. Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has accused the Federal Government of trying to break its ranks by selecting some medical lecturers for payment of their withheld salaries, while other academic staff are left unattended to.

5. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) carrier, Emirates, has suspended its flights to Nigeria indefinitely, citing its trapped funds in Nigeria. It also said it was yet to get its allocation from the $260m released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to clear part of the blocked funds belonging to foreign airlines.

6. The presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, says he has moved on from the issues threatening the chances of his party in 2023. In an interview with VOA Hausa, Atiku said leadership change is currently impossible in the party.

7. The Federal Government has revealed that Jigawa State is the worst hit in terms of the number of deaths recorded during the devastating floods across the country. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk, made the revelation yesterday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

8. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, admitted that it would face a daunting task conducting next year’s general elections, but pledged not to disappoint Nigerians in delivering a free, fair and credible poll. It equally reassured the electorate that only their votes would determine winners for the elections, reiterating that its loyalty and allegiance would be to Nigeria and Nigerians.

9. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the release of 12,000 metric tonnes of grains as relief materials for victims of flood disaster across the country. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, made this known at the weekly ministerial briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team in Abuja, yesterday.

10. Mallam Adamu Adamu, yesterday, admitted that he has failed in his assignment as Minister of Education. This is as he regretted his inability to resolve several challenges in the sector despite serving as longest minister in the sector.
