Major shakeup in First Bank: Folake Ani-Mumuney, others asked to step aside

In a significant development at Nigeria’s premier financial institution, First Bank of Nigeria, Folake Ani-Mumuney, the Global Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, is stepping down after 15 years of dedicated service.

Ani-Mumuney steps down alongside other individuals who have served the bank in various capacities.

With a professional career spanning more than 25 years, Ani-Mumuney has gained experience across various industries, including banking, aviation, manufacturing, and oil and gas.

“As I bow out of First Bank and draw a curtain on this phase this year end! God has been wonderful to me and I have so much to be thankful for ,” she said.

Gaia Africa, a private business club for Africa’s leading female executives, celebrated her in an Instagram post, praising her career as a remarkable and inspiring legacy.

The organization also commended her efforts in championing gender equity and promoting female leadership.

“We celebrate Folake Ani-Mumuney as she retires from her distinguished career at First Bank. FAM has carved a remarkable path, earning a stellar reputation for her diligence and unwavering support for other women, and for countless gender-related and female leadership initiatives.

May this new adventure, be even more rewarding and impactful as your journey with FBN,” it wrote.

She assumed the role of Global Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at the bank in 2010.

According to WISCAR, Women in Successful Careers, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and mentoring professional women across Nigeria and Africa, Ani-Mumuney is a seasoned C-suite executive with vast international experience.

She has held key leadership positions in prominent organizations, including British Airways and the Dangote Group, overseeing portfolios across Europe, Africa, the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom.

As a former board member of WISCAR, she played a significant role in advancing women’s careers in the professional sphere. She also served as the president of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria, ADVAN, and holds several prestigious recognitions, including honorary membership with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. In addition, she is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria and a Member of the Institute of Directors in Nigeria.

Her professional achievements have earned her numerous honors, including three Lifetime Achievement Awards, both domestically and internationally. A sought-after speaker, Ani-Mumuney continues to champion Africa’s development and progress.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Lagos, a law degree from the University of Buckingham, and a diploma in Business Computing Systems Analysis and Design.

Ani-Mumuney is also an alumna of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme and has completed executive education courses at leading business schools worldwide.
