Mr. Alex Otti whose strange letter of reference claimed he completed his mandatory one-year National Youth Service program in November 1989, but due to circumstances beyond the control of NYSC, he was not issued a certificate of discharge for his National Service; seems to have run into troubled waters as the authenticity of the letter he parades is being questioned.
The letter also claimed he was posted to Lagos State upon graduation from the University of Port Harcourt and did his primary assignment with Nigeria International Bank Limited, Lagos.
The letter, further claimed that, Mr. Otti was instead of the normal discharge certificate every corps member receives; issued with a letter of reference, which NYSC Lagos state, said it will be replaced as soon as they receive his discharge certificate from their headquarters in Abuja.
Since November 1985 till date, 34 years after, NYSC’s “as-soon-as”, has not expired as Mr. Otti still parades the piece of strange paper purportedly given to him by NYSC Lagos State in place of a discharge certificate.
Documents speak for themselves. The strange letter of reference admittedly stated it wasn’t a discharge certificate and didn’t in any place say, it was issued in replacement of a lost certificate but surprisingly said; it is to accord the bearer privileges of a Corps member who had completed the mandatory service year.
One wonders what circumstances could be beyond NYSC, that didn’t allow them to issue Mr. Alex Chioma Otti with a proper discharge certificate when due. It has been 34 years and counting.
*Now, it is clearer why they torpedoed the oral evidence of the NYSC subpoenaed witness, by claiming the Labour Party’s lawyer was sick to the extent that he couldn’t transmit authority to court for another to stand in for him, even though he participated fully in court proceedings the day before.
