MY PRIORITY AS GOVERNOR WILL BE HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT, INFRASTRUCTURE, SMEs- PROF IKONNE

Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne has declared that human capital development, infrastructure development, quality education, the institutionalisation of participatory governance, security, and continuous promotion of SMEs will be among his administration’s top priorities.

Prof Ikonne, who is a leading 2023 governorship aspirant in Abia state disclosed these while addressing Newsmen at a press conference in Umuahia.

Already, Prof. Ikonne who is an academic and currently the Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University has announced his plans to promote education at all levels in the state.

According to him, “I have a proper assessment of the present situation after having served the state, being around the state for over 30 years, serving in a position where you meet people from all walks of life, from all the nooks and crannies of the State and Interacting with people on top management level, and even social status. I think I’m in a position within the limits of human error, access the true position of Abia State infrastructurally, socially, academically, agriculturally and in all areas of human endeavour”.

Additionally, a functional Science Hub in collaboration with tech experts like Google and Microsoft will be established to enable technological advancement such as Software development and Artificial Intelligence, in the state.

Ikonne stated that every government’s responsibility is to build quality human capacity and create avenues to allow people to reach their full potential.

He also stated that he would support education that prepares people for a global standard and provides a didactic environment that allows people to develop their skills in a variety of positive ways.

The Professor, who served as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and Rector of Abia State Polytechnic pledged to draw from his wide experience and contacts, nationally and internationally, to drive the future of Abia State.

While expressing his love and support for Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s government, he promised to build on the successes made by the current administration in the SMEs sector to improve Abia by creating a conducive environment for businesses to grow.
