NANS ZONE F Passionately Appeal To ASUU To Call Of Strike

Due to the lingering industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the National Association of Nigerian Students from NANS Zone F (Southeast) has called on the union to call off it’s strike and at the same time, calling on the federal government to fulfill their own part of the memorandum of understanding they had with ASUU and to take Education as a priority.

The student’s apex body made the appeal on Friday being 24th June 2022, with the National Chairman of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke.

Comr. Frank Eme Orji, the Pioneer Secretary General of NANS Zone F of Southeast who led other associated student body in Abia State commend the efforts of the union over the struggle meant for the growth and development of the Nigerian educational system.

Prof. Osodeke appreciated the union for her doggedness, patience, perseverance, despite not being paid amidst the industrial action and a struggle for a better and condusive learning environment and improved welfare package for both the students, the lecturers and all major stakeholders in the educational industry.

Comr. Frank E. Orji and other leaders, pleaded with the union for the sake of the Nigerian students to shelve the industrial action.

He called on the federal government as a matter of urgent national importance to ensure the implementation of the agreement reached by the union so that academic activities in the various institutions in Nigeria will commence in earnest.

The ASUU National Chairman, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke called for calmness on the part of the students and parents while the union continues it’s negotiation with the federal government.

According to Prof. Osodeke, the reason for the strike action include: Lack of funding of the institutions to meet international standard having the ability to compete with other universities globally, Welfare of it’s members and major stakeholders in the university community, University Autonomy to meet international best practices and Other things needed to enhance learning and promote our educational system to an enviable standard.

He appealed to the students and parents to prevail on the federal government to come to terms with the union inorder to end the industrial dispute. As he expressed optimism about all concerned, saying “a people united can never be defeated” and at the same time assured that the industrial action will soon be a thing of the past.

Emeka Kenneth, Former NANS Deputy Chairman of Abia State, Comr. Chigozie Okeahialam, NANS Stakeholders’ Secretary of Abia State, Comr. Mike Ifenkwe, Immediate Past Stakeholders’ Secretary of Abia State, Comr. Chigozie Osuagwu, Former NANS Zonal Rep of Abia State & a super stakeholder, Comr. Chiegeiro Chinonso Precious, Secretary General of National Association of Abia State Students ( NAASS ) and Comr. Ngerim Joseph, NANS Comrade.
