Nigerian Army being stretched, faces new challenges – Gen. Yahaya

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya says the military arm is being stretched beyond its regular duties.

He said the situation required more tactful, ingenious and innovative ideas in order to tackle the security challenges in Nigeria.

Yahaya spoke on Tuesday at the 22nd combat service support training week at the School of Supply and Transport on Tuesday in Benin.

The COAS observed the volatile and complex operational environments the army operates in.

“Our manpower is continually being stretched, thereby presenting new challenges that require tact, ingenuity and innovation to tackle”, he stressed.

Yahaya noted that it is expedient for the army to continue to improve on the existing structure while developing more efficient means of suppressing threats.

He charged officers and men to come up with ways, means and methods of increasing the competencies and effectiveness of the army.
