The 1st Respondent (INEC) to Chief Okey Ambrose Ahiwe’s Governorship Election Petition opened and closed its defence at the resumed sitting of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal today.
The 1st Respondent presented one witness known as Kelechi Kemjika Okere who said he was the Electoral Officer for INEC in Obingwa LGA during the election and who adopted his written deposition as his evidence in chief
Responding to questions under cross-examination by the Petitioners’ Counsel, Chief Uche Ihediwa, SAN, the witness confirmed that at the end of the collation of results at the Local Government Collation Center, all Agents of the political parties signed the result sheets but in the instant case i.e Obingwa result which is marked as an exhibit (P188), he admitted that “no Party Agent including the Labour Party agent signed it.
Although the witness denied that the Obingwa result was taken to Abuja, the Petitioner’s Counsel insisted that the State Returning Officer/Collation Agent, Prof Nnenna Otti refused to collate the result at the State Collation Centre, Umuahia, rather, she took the result to Abuja and came back after three days to announce it pointing out that there was no collation of results in his own Ward (9) due to crisis but “Abuja imputed a result on it.
The tribunal adjourned till tomorrow for the 2nd Respondent to open and close its defence.
