The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has described the allegation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the commission was planning to change the locations of polling units as baseless.
INEC made this disclosure on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
It will be recalled that the APC had on Sunday said that the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and INEC had concluded plans to change locations of polling units ahead of the 2023 elections so as to win the elections.
APC through its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare alleged that the INEC intended to rig the election in favour of the PDP.
In a statement, the APC said, “Makinde, already getting the signals pointing to his inevitable electoral doom, has issued a standing instruction to some bad eggs within the Oyo State office of INEC, to immediately relocate several polling units across the state, from their advertised addresses to unknown or obscure locations”.
In a swift reaction, INEC described the APC allegation as baseless and unfounded.
The commission maintained that it has no plan to change the locations of any polling units in the state.
Head of Department of Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Civil Society of INEC in Oyo State, Mrs Rosemary Alaba Adeniyi, while speaking to newsmen on Monday, described APC allegation as baseless.
According to her, “There is no iota of truth in that allegation at all”,but maintained that the commission expanded polling units last year and everybody was aware.
