Landlords of Alaoji Ogbodudu in Umuana Ndume Ibeku, Abia state have expressed sadness over the demolition of their houses by the government through the Umuahia Capital Development Agency (UDCA) without any court order, the residents complained of just a two days notice, adding that they should have been notified.
A resident, described the government action as a violation of their fundamental human rights and barbaric act.
We didn’t commit any wrong because all of us got our homes through the legal means, and I believe such actions should come through a court order. He said.
Another person who is also a landlord name withheld of Alaoji also lament that “We bought our land with allocation papers before we start building, we also went to Umuahia Capital Development Agency (UDCA) to register our buildings, before they came last Saturday(i.e) the UDCA staffs) to inform us that they’re going to demolish our buildings today being 17th August 2024, which they start demolishing some part of a one story building and brought down so many fences, bringing down gates of some empty lands which were fenced.
He also stated that Allocation papers were gotten from the Ministry of lands,
and we see no reason for forcefully evicting us from our house which we all have obtained legally.
