Rivers govt fires private waste contractors

0Shares

Rivers State Government has terminated its contract with all private waste contractors.

A statement by Kelvin Ebiri, the Governor’s Special Assistant on Media disclosed this at the weekend.

The government said the firms’ contract with the Rivers State Management Agency (RIWAMA) was not adhered to.

They were accused of “inability to fulfil the obligation to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for the Rivers’ citizens”.

The Chairmen of Port Harcourt City and Obio-Akpor Local Government Areas will take charge of the evacuation of waste in Rivers.

This is pending the announcement of new waste contractors by Monday.

The government assured residents of its resolve to tackle the waste problems in the state in a comprehensive manner.
