RUGA? Our MoU With NALDA Has Nothing To Do With It, Prof Iwe, VC MOUA, Umudike Explains

Amidst panic by locales that the MoU signed between the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUA), Umudike and the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) was to facilitate the establishment a Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) in a section of the institution, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe, has clearly stated that the agreement to develop and enhance agriculture in some with NALDA was not aimed at introducing RUGA there.

Addressing journalists during the anniversary of his first year in office at the Senate building on Tuesday, Prof Iwe, explained that the university actually had an agreement the agency to bring in some agricultural inceptives that will develop its farms, pointing out that the MoU with NALDA was for the best of school and therefore has nothing to do with RUGA.

This is the first time a body has come up to assist this university to develop its farms. NALDA is bringing in some agric inceptives to assist us develop our farms. We’ve not giving our lands for RUGA settlement, but it’s parts of the efforts to encourage teaching, learning and research”, he said.

He also informed that the school equally signed an MoU with NiMet, adding that within the past one year of his leadership VC, the university resolved a five-year trade dispute between it and Aoen Consult Limited as well as that of the Michael Okpara UniAgric Microfinance Bank.

Flanked by some principal officers of the university, Iwe announced the establishment of a well-equipped surgical theatre at the institution’s Health Services Department by his administration. According to him, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has given approval for the centre to perform surgery in obstetrics and gynecology.

On the call for recognition and support to the federal government by Professor Madubuike Ezeibe, Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine from the university, who claims to have a cure for HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and Prostrate, the MOUA VC said the institution is solidly behind him, adding that the management of the school believed in the efficacy of the outcome of his research on those diseases.

We’ll do everything possible to support him”, he said, adding “this university under my leadership will continue to pursue its vision of building a knowledge-giving, society-conscious-and-satisfying world-class university; in which competent and committed staff shall consistently produce competent graduates, equipped with entrepreneurial, problem-solving acumen, social skills and capacities”.

the MOUA Vice Chancellor at the occasion received an an Award of Excellence from the crew of Hall of Fame of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abuja.

Later after the press conference, the VC in company with journalists and principal officers of the Ivory Tower, inspected some ongoing projects and laid the foundation stone of some with the university community, assuring that the projects will completed in a record time.
