Taiwan has weighed in on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a strong message to China.
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu warned that a war triggered by China will end in a global disaster.
If there’s going to be a war over Taiwan, it will be a disaster for the rest of the world”, Wu said.
In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS, the official hailed Ukraine’s spirited battle against Russian forces.
Wu lauded Ukraine’s “civil defense” which has seen thousands of males having the determination to defend the country”.
They want to serve in the military and fight against Russia. That kind of spirit is enviable for the Taiwanese people.”
With Beijing’s repeated insistence that Taiwan is part of China, Wu said they need friends and allies as in the case of Ukraine.
On whether China considers Russia’s aggression as “a green light” to also invade Taiwan, Wu guessed they could if his country does not get support.
The minister however said China would have a second thought if the United States or other major countries declare readiness to stand with Taiwan.
With the resilience of Ukraine against a powerful Russia, “Beijing must think twice whether they are able to take Taiwan over”,Wu said.
