Shakhtar Donetsk players locked in hotel as Zelensky vows to arm volunteers

Shakhtar Donetsk’s squad are currently ‘locked in a hotel’ while they try to figure out what the best course of action is as Ukraine and Russia prepare to go to war.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky had called on nationals to volunteer for the resistance effort.

The President said, “We will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country. Be ready to support Ukraine in the squares of our cities.

“We will lift sanctions on all citizens of Ukraine who are ready to defend our country as part of the territorial defence with weapons in hands.

“We have severed diplomatic relations with Russia. For all those who have not yet lost their conscience in Russia, it is time to go out and protest against the war with Ukraine.”

Football activities have already been suspended for 30 days in the country as Russia hits military assets and air bases in the country.
