Stand Against External Political Manipulation in Ikwuano.- Hon.Philip-D
The Concerned Citizen and Candidate for Chairmanship position Ikwuano LGA, Social Democratic Party (SDP) has raised the alarm against the undemocratic process planned by Gov.Otti in the forthcoming Local Government polls
As sons and daughters of Ikwuano, we must protect our homeland from external manipulation and ensure that our political future is determined by those who truly have our best interests at heart. It is with great concern that we address the recent developments surrounding the handpicking of candidates for political office by individuals who are not indigenes of Ikwuano.
The current scenario, where those anointed by Governor Otti, once campaigned on the promise of liberating Ikwuano from external dominance, has now presented a candidate chosen by outsiders, is both disheartening and an insult to the people of Ikwuano. This is a clear departure from the ideals they once championed—ideals rooted in self-sufficiency and the right of Ikwuano to chart its own course.
At one time, those anointed by the Governor, stood firmly against the political hegemony imposed by Umuahia, arguing that Ikwuano had been made slaves to Umuahia’s political decisions. They promised that Ikwuano would rise to determine its own political destiny, free from external influence. Today, however, we witness a betrayal of that trust, as the same party has allowed its candidate to be handpicked by forces outside of Ikwuano. This is unacceptable.
We refuse to allow Ikwuano to be subjected to the whims of external powers. No son or daughter of this great land should campaign for or support a candidate who has been foisted upon us by non-citizens. To do so would be a betrayal of the fight for self-determination that we have so tirelessly championed. We will no longer accept being treated as second-class citizens in our own land.
The time has come for the people of Ikwuano to stand united and reject any candidate who does not represent the true will of the people. We must demand that our leaders be chosen by us. We understand the unique challenges and opportunities within Ikwuano. We cannot afford to go back to a time when our political future was dictated by outsiders who did not share in our struggles or our aspirations.
To every son and daughter of Ikwuano, this is our moment. We call on you to reject any candidate who has been imposed on us from the outside. Let us hold firm to the vision of a self-determined Ikwuano—a land where our fate is decided by us, for us. Together, we can build a future that reflects the true values of our people.
While the Anointed by the Governor, is undeniably a great son of Ikwuano, with numerous achievements that warrant recognition and celebration, his candidacy must be challenged—not because of his personal merit, but due to the flawed and externally influenced process through which he emerged. Ikwuano deserves leaders chosen through transparent and democratic means, reflecting the true will of the people, not those imposed by outside forces. Therefore, while we respect the individual, we must reject the process and demand a more credible and representative approach to leadership selection.
I urge all men and women of integrity whose names have been listed as part of the campaign team to respectfully withdraw from this task. Your loyalty to the party, though commendable, should never outweigh your loyalty to your ancestry and the future of our homeland. We all must act in the best interests of Ikwuano, ensuring that our political decisions reflect the will of our people and not the dictates of external influences. I trust that you will make the right decision for the sake of posterity, as history will remember those who stood for the truth and the greater good. We are keeping records, and your actions today will be remembered tomorrow.
We will not be slaves in our own land. Ikwuano will rise and take its rightful place in determining its political future.
God bless Ikwuano!!!
