Tinubu’s lawyers submit Anambra State LP’s membership register which Peter Obi’s name not included
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s lawyers in defense of the Labour Party’s petition at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal have tendered the Anambra State LP’s membership register to prove Peter Obi is unfit to stand in the 2023 election.
Recalled Mr. Obi purportedly resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party on 26th May 2022 to join LP. The Labour Party conducted its Presidential Primary election on 30th May 2022 which produced Mr Obi as the candidate it intended to sponsor in the general election.
Tinubu’s lawyer said, by section 77(3) of the Electoral Act, Labour is mandated to have submitted its comprehensive register of members to INEC, 30 days before its presidential primary, implying that the register of members must have been submitted to INEC on or before 30th April 2022.
Mr Obi as of 30th April 2022 was still a member of the PDP and his name was not in the register of members submitted by the Labour Party to INEC.
According to his Counsel, Peter Obi was still a member of the PDP when he contested the presidential election under the Labour Party.
Peter Obi and Labour Party are in court to probe the declaration of Bola Tinubu by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the last presidential election
