Ohafia Local Government is star-studded with quality manpower, men and women of great skills, wealth, astute policy makers, financial experts, industrialists etc; Ohafia will be critical to the participatory government we shall set up. We will rebuild Ohafia, we will make use of Ohafia’s abundant critical manpower in policy making and policy delivery”, those were Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne’s promises while soliciting for support from leaders, stakeholders and delegates of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Ohafia LGA.
Continuing, the leading PDP governorship aspirant, Professor Ikonne said the distinguishing factor between him and other aspirants is the fact that he has rendered over 30 years of public service to Abia’s critical sectors, thus; have directly or indirectly, positively touched every household in Abia State. Professor Ikonne who is a tested and trusted administrator is the steady hand to pilot the affairs of Abia State from 2023, given the dwindling fortunes of Nigeria. One, who is experienced enough in public service that can effectively harness both human and material resources to yield better life for Abians.
States in Nigeria are all turning to experienced problem solvers as Governors and not trial and error types; Abia cannot afford to be left behind. Professor Ikonne promised the people of Ohafia LGA of massive physical transformation of Ohafia as the third mega city in Abia State after Umuahia and Aba.
The PDP governorship front runner said his mantra has always been “Our story must Change”; same mantra he took to work in Abia State University as a classroom lecturer to Administrative head to Dean to Deputy Provost to Deputy Vice Chancellor then went to Abia State Polytechnic on a rescue mission, before returning to Abia State University to win a keenly contested Vice Chancellorship as the 7th substantive (VC) Vice Chancellor. The story of Abia State University did change for good under Professor Ikonne and same will become of Abia by the grace of God and support of ndi Abia.
Hear him; “if I am able to effectively manage over thirty-five thousand young people of different ages, from various family background, with varied idiosyncrasies, various degrees of volatility, all manner of characters and no one day did they rose-up against me in protest or demonstration. No internal strike all through my time as VC. No cultism or its related vices. Salaries of staff and pension were paid regularly except when covid-19 pandemic hit the world in 2020. Effectively planted Umuahia campus and Aba campus of Abia State University in line with the multiple campus law passed. Introduced many professional courses and accreditation. Transformation of physical, structural and academic standards of the University; having done all these in a microcosm of Nigeria, then steering the government of Abia State will be done with utmost effectiveness for faster and better results”.
The Local Government chairman of Ohafia LGA, Dr. Okorafor Okorafor Ukiwe paid glowing tributes to the erudite Professor and thanked him for making himself available once more to serve the state, more especially, now the nation is at it’s lowest functional ebb and needs capable hands to rescue constituting states of the federation. Abia needs your experience sir to sustain and expand on the gains made under Dr Okezie Ikpeazu; he concluded. Many other speakers including the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu confirmed that Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne is best for Abia state at this pivotal time of our nationhood.
THOUGHTS: Professor Ikonne is best suited at this pivotal time to put Abia on the fastest lane of economic advancement, infrastructural and human capital development; taking advantage of the strong foundations laid by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.
