UCL Tuchel receives warning after Chelsea’s defeat to Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid midfielder, Steve McManaman, has warned Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, that he needs to curtail the Blues’ season following their Champions League last-eight first leg defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday.

A Karim Benzema hat-trick gave Real Madrid a 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Tuchel said that the second leg tie next week is ‘not alive’ given his side’s performance in the first leg.

But McManaman wants Tuchel to be careful about his interview, insisting he should not allow the defeat to Real Madrid to control the West London club’s season.

We watched it, we analysed it, we know how bad Chelsea were,” McManaman told BT Sport.

I fully expected him [Thomas Tuchel] to be honest, but he has to be careful, he doesn’t want a moment like this or an interview like that to curtail the season.

There is still plenty to play for, but if they do lose to Southampton, they have Tottenham breathing down their necks.

They have to be careful that it doesn’t fall away. They need to win on the weekend and move forward.”
