Loyalists of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State have reacted to the sudden leadership change in the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party is now on the right track.
The faction of the APC in Ogun State claimed it now holds the ace as far as the APC is concerned, urging its elected party officers to be vigilant and alive to their responsibilities.
There were reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the removal of Governor Mai Mala Buni as the interim chairman of the APC.
Buni was accused of alleged plans to stop the March 26 APC national convention through a ‘secret’ court order.
Newsmen reports that Buni was on Monday replaced by the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sanni Bello, in acting capacity.
Reacting, the factional Chairman of the APC in Ogun, Chief Derin Adebiyi, said God is greater than individuals, who he said would not have believed as of Sunday that they would cease to be the leaders of the party on Monday.
We must thank God. Our party is now on the right track. If they had told some people on Sunday that they would no longer be in charge of the party, they would dispute it. God has just demonstrated that he is greater than individuals,” Adebiyi said.
Adebiyi, who spoke at the meeting of some Ogun APC chieftains in Abeokuta on Wednesday, urged them not to give room to those he described as “corrupt and immoral merchants in politics, who try to supplant the interest of the party or go about deceiving unsuspecting members for votes.
“You should be conscious of your positions in the party, and must know what you are doing. I do not expect you to hobnob with adversaries masquerading as genuine members of our party. You must be vigilant and let your leaders be aware of nocturnal meetings and movements. Do not be trapped.”
While assuring APC members of light at the end of the tunnel, he declared that “as far as Ogun State APC is concerned, the Amosun camp holds the ace. We are the original members of APC. We will not leave this party for anybody. Wherever Senator Amosun goes, we will follow him.”
Newsmen reports that the APC in Ogun State has both the Amosun and the Governor Dapo Abiodun factions fighting for the soul of the party.
